History of Gangotri Temple
The Gangotri Temple was built in the 18th century by the Gorkha commander Amar Singh Thapa. It is believed that Goddess Ganga descended to Earth here after King Bhagirath’s intense penance to purify the souls of his ancestors. Since then, the temple has been a sacred center of devotion and pilgrimage for millions of devotees.
